We are looking for a Software PA Support Engineer (E3) to join our Modis Aerospace team, working onsite at the European Space Agency in the Netherlands.

General tasks to be performed:

  • Contribute to the establishing of the programmatic and technical software PA requirements within the framework of the ESA Software policy.
  • Evaluate Contractors’ plans, technical specifications and efforts proposed for the execution of the S/W PA programme.
  • Monitor and evaluate S/W PA analyses, reports and technical notes.
  • Participate to project reviews, meetings, Configuration Control Boards, Non-conformance Review Boards and Software Review Boards.
  • Prepare design trade-offs, analyses and reports using metrics to support project decisions.
  • Participate to software product evaluations and process assessments. • Establish and maintain databases to track NCRs, RFWs, action items etc. as required.

About ESA-ESTEC

The European Space Agency (ESA) has sites in several European countries. The European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) is the largest site and the technical heart of ESA. This nursery of European space activities is located in Noordwijk, Netherlands.

At ESTEC, about 2500 engineers, technicians and scientists work hands-on with mission design, spacecraft and space technology.

Almost all ESA projects - except launchers - are managed from ESTEC. In Noordwijk, people work on science missions, manned space missions, Earth observation, telecommunications and navigation satellites.

ESTEC provides extensive testing facilities to verify the proper operation of spacecraft, such as the Large Space Simulator (LSS), acoustic and electromagnetic testing bays, multi-axis vibration tables and the ESA Propulsion Laboratory (EPL).

Functie-eisen

To successfully perform the above mentioned tasks, the following background / experience is required:

  • Master’s degree in Software Engineering or Computer Science with background on Space Engineering.
  • Relevant professional work experience.
  • Familiarity with space product assurance practices together with a good working knowledge of appropriate working tools.
  • Practical experience in applying ECSS S/W standards.
  • Knowledge and proven experience in the following areas:

o Configuration management of complex systems.

o Software engineering and PA in critical applications.

  • Experience on (or knowledge of) the following areas would be considered as an asset for this position:

o Agile practices (e.g. Scrum Master / Product Owner;

o other Agile frameworks as SAFE, Lean or Kanban).

o Quality assurance for Machine Learning models.

o Big Data software architectures and life-cycles.

o Data quality assurance.

o Cyber-security assurance, security evaluation and certification, ISO-27001.

o Hands-on experience with static code analysis and tools.

o Alternative software development life-cycles, continuous integration and tools.
